KIRIGAMI POP-UPS WITH ANN KRONENBERG

Books always contain magic. However, when a pop-up springs from between the pages, and then tucks itself away again when the book is closed, miracles are at hand. In this workshop we will learn how to make kirigami (Japanese for “cut paper”) pop-ups.

About the event

Books always contain magic. However, when a pop-up springs from between the pages, and then tucks itself away again when the book is closed, miracles are at hand.  In this workshop we will learn how to make kirigami (Japanese for “cut paper”) pop-ups. After creating a “dictionary” of techniques, we will make one or more kirigami artworks. We will then learn how to add images or colored shapes to a kirigami base to create pop-up collages. These techniques can be used for special occasion and holiday cards, book arts, and school projects.


Ann Kronenberg is a visual artist and writer. She creates sculptural objects, installations, book works, fiber and textile arts, works on paper, wearables, performance, and handmade paper works. Her writing concentrates on memoir, essays, and texts for her book works. A lifelong New Yorker, she began making art at the age of two, encouraged and guided by her…
