Hand Puppet Workshop with Bernice Kramer

Bernice Sokol Kramer has developed a quick and imaginative method for creating hand puppets within the span of a single workshop.

She originally created a marionette- and puppet-making program for East Side Middle School that unfolded over 15 weeks. For this shorter workshop, she has adapted and simplified the process while preserving the creativity and sense of discovery at its heart. Using simple materials, participants will be encouraged to experiment, play, and let their imaginations take shape.

Many of her recent sculptures feature doll-like images reflecting her love of early television puppet and marionette shows - Kukla, Fran & Ollie, The Adventures of Lucky Pup and Howdy Doody.

Her great influence is Paul Klee who spent time entertaining his children with his hand made puppets.
